Kazakhstan’s regulated cryptocurrency market recorded $ 10.58 billion in trading turnover in 2025, up from $ 320 million in 2023.

The number of users also increased during the period, rising from 53,000 in 2023 to approximately 215,000 by the end of 2025. The growth follows Kazakhstan’s efforts to establish a regulated framework for digital assets through the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and national financial regulators.

Kazakhstan began developing its regulated digital asset market in 2022, when AIFC-licensed cryptocurrency exchanges were permitted to work with local banks. A broader national regulatory framework for digital assets took effect in May 2026, introducing licensing requirements for cryptocurrency exchanges, tokenization platforms and other digital asset services.

The AIFC currently hosts digital asset exchanges, investment service providers and payment organisations. Regulated digital asset service providers recorded $ 10.58 billion in transactions in 2025 and served approximately 215,000 users.

Alongside market regulation, Kazakhstan is developing its Web3 and blockchain sector through training and startup support. More than 8,000 people have received training through cooperation with the Solana ecosystem over the past year, while 57 Kazakh startups have received grants totalling ₸ 121 million.

The country is also exploring wider applications for digital assets. The government plans to test the tokenization of up to $ 60 million in real estate and logistics projects by the end of 2026, while the National Bank is developing further measures covering tokenized assets, digital payments and the digital tenge.

The measures form part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to develop a regulated digital asset market and integrate blockchain-based financial instruments into its financial infrastructure.
