National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark, Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan continues to develop the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark (NIPT), a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) established to support the growth of the country’s petrochemical industry, attract investment, and create advanced manufacturing facilities based on the deep processing of hydrocarbon resources. Located in the Atyrau Region, the SEZ serves as a dedicated industrial platform for the development of chemical and petrochemical production.

Established on 19 December 2007, NIPT was created to facilitate the implementation of large-scale investment projects in petrochemicals, including the development of world-class production facilities, manufacturing of competitive high value-added petrochemical products, and integration of Kazakhstan’s petrochemical sector into international markets.

The SEZ covers an area of 3,475.9 hectares and is managed by the Management Company of the Special Economic Zone “National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark”. The zone provides investors with a specialised industrial environment supported by infrastructure and investment conditions designed to encourage the development of petrochemical enterprises.

NIPT focuses on the creation of interconnected chemical and petrochemical industries, supporting deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, the introduction of modern technologies, and the production of value-added industrial products. The SEZ also contributes to Kazakhstan’s broader industrial diversification goals by strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity and attracting international investment into the petrochemical sector.

In 2024, the Government of Kazakhstan extended the operating period of the SEZ until 31 December 2048, subject to the achievement of established development indicators, confirming its long-term role in the country’s industrial development strategy.
