Omani investor to invest $ 50 million in Kazakhstan shrimp farm

Omani-founded Big Blue Farms is set to invest approximately $ 50 million in a large-scale shrimp farming project in Kazakhstan, marking a significant new investment in the country’s developing aquaculture sector.
A memorandum for the project was signed with Kazakhstan’s Fisheries Committee. Big Blue Farms will work with Kazakh company Artex Machinery, which will serve as the local partner and project contractor. The production complex is expected to have an annual capacity of around 5,300 tons of shrimp, with part of the output intended for export.
The project will use European land-based recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), enabling shrimp production in a controlled environment while reducing dependence on conventional open-water farming.
The facility is expected to supply the domestic market while also strengthening Kazakhstan’s export potential. Once operating at full capacity, the project is expected to create more than 300 jobs.
The investment reflects the growing role of technology-driven aquaculture in food production and adds to Kazakhstan’s efforts to attract investment into agriculture and food production beyond its traditional resource-based sectors.
